The Center for High Impact Philanthropy, housed at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice, was established in spring 2006 by alumni of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, who were frustrated by the difficulty of measuring and maximizing the impact of their charitable gifts.
We provide the information and decision-making tools that allow donors to understand where their funds can have the greatest social impact. By focusing on what is both actionable & evidence-based, we aim to define the efficient frontier of philanthropy, where nonprofit financing is not input-driven, or client-driven, but impact-driven.
Penn is an ideal setting for such a resource center. The School of Social Policy & Practice is a leader in research and education related to the pursuit of social justice and progress. In addition, Penn is home to renowned programs in areas such as law, medicine, business, nursing, education, science, engineering, and ethics, all of which are important sources of information and expertise for the Center.
However, the Center's work reaches far beyond Penn to engage nonprofits/NGOs, philanthropists, foundations, policy and research centers, and universities working towards more effective philanthropy.
