Incorporated in 1989, Foundation for the Homeless, Inc. mobilizes the resources of communities of faith and other community organizations to end homelessness in a spirit of compassion, hope and love. FFH partners with persons experiencing or at risk for homelessness, especially, families with children, and more than 70 congregations and community groups in the Austin, Texas area to build new opportunities for housing stability, economic independence and personal wellness. FFH offers Austin's only shelter and case management program that keeps families intact by using congregational space, known as the Family Promise-Interfatih Hospitality Network (IHN). Approximately 60% of the persons utilizing FFH's shelter, housing, case management and homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing programs are children. Through FFH's Feed My People breakfast program, approximately 400 single adults receive a warm breakfast, hygiene items, services and loving presence twice weekly. FFH's small staff is supplemented by more than 3,000 volunteers who contribute 50,000 of service annually. Between January and June 2010, at least 626 persons used FFH programs, including 55 households/226 individuals that used case management and shelter, rapid re-housing or prevention assistance. Of the 15 families that exited shelter during this period, 80% exited into safe, stable housing, 60% improved their income and 12% raised their income to 100% of the Median Family Income for Austin.
