Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Inc. (LIR) is a 501(c)(3) food pantry located in Leesburg, Virginia. The mission of LIR is to feed the hungry who reside in Loudoun County.
LIR was established in 1991 by a group of dedicated volunteers from local churches. These volunteers were united by a commitment to offer support and solutions to several groups of people: (1) the working poor whose income is insufficient to cover basic necessities (2) the unemployed (3) the elderly or the sick who cannot compete in the workplace and (4) the homeless. Today, the need to combat hunger in our community is as important as ever, and it is Loudoun Interfaith Relief’s goal to address that issue.
LIR’s core service is the Emergency Food Distribution Program. Our model is unique. We serve our clients by providing households with a three day supply of food sufficient to prepare three well balanced meals. Each household is eligible to receive this service twice a month. USDA commodities are also distributed monthly to qualifying households. In order to receive our services, we only ask for proof of residency in Loudoun Co. and a picture ID – no other information is required. From time to time, clients – such as the homeless – cannot provide proof of residency or a picture ID. For those, we still provide a one day supply of food.
