The Mental Health Association of connecticut, Inc. (MHAC) is a private non-profit corporation founded in 1908. The MHAC mission is to advocate and work for everyone's mental health by creating quality services and compassionate relationships that engage, instruct and inspire. Through education and advocacy, MHAC empowers people to new understandings and actions so that they feel hope, acquire ability and find meaning in their lives. MHAC believes that all people have a right to be treated with dignity and respect and are to be encouraged to assume the responsibilites commensurate with their rights. MHAC recognizes and supports the individual needs, goals and aspirations of persons in recovery on their way to recovery. All services and programs are provided in an environment which: 1) fosters consumer and provider growth; 2) encourages an alliance among consumers, families, providers and the public; 3) strives for cultural competency; and 4) upholds the highest ethical standards for its employee. All our interactions with customers, stakeholders and each other is at the same level of service and quality we expect from healthcare providers treating ourselves or our family members. With empathy for people and their problems, we strive to create experiences of healing and helpfulness by creating a safe place for persons in recovery and staff. We offer services that work and we use all our resources efficiently. We are faithful to our mission and high ethical standards.
