While each board situation is unique, there are common challenges facing the conduct of effective nonprofit board meetings. These challenges include board size (typically 10, 12 or more), use of time, decision-making, and ability to keep members engaged and committed to the work. In this session I share a number of tools that can help boards have more effective meetings. These tools help you structure the meeting and do not require special training or facilitation skills. You can use them to improve your very next board meeting.
I'll give you tools for improving your meetings so that you can:
- Conduct more efficient and effective board meetings.
- Create meetings that build broader commitment to decisions.
- Achieve broader engagement and follow-up.
Attach docs, images, videos, and files by dragging & dropping, or selecting them.
Richard Lent has spent 25 years facilitating meetings around the world. These meetings have brought stakeholders together for planning, organizational change and societal issues. He also helps nonprofit boards redefine vision and strategy and improve their work together.
Among the organizations in which Rick has supported significant meetings are: InterAction (pandemic preparedness), UNICEF (country-wide health crisis), the WK Kellogg Foundation (strategy), and the International Federation of Red Cross (NGO partnering) as well as various civic and nonprofit groups.
Rick leads workshops on a structural approach to better meetings. He also provides meeting design and facilitation services and coaches leaders on how to resolve meeting challenges. His new e-book, Meeting for Results Tool Kit: Make Your Meetings Work, is now available from Amazon.
Rick received his Ph.D. from Syracuse University and held various management positions before co-founding Brownfield and Lent in 1991.
