Establishing Strong Board & Staff Relations (Board Transformation Toolkit) Edit Title

Small or large nonprofit. Staff or all-volunteer. The responsibility for the various activities depends very much on the size and lifecycle of the nonprofit – very small or young organizations often have working boards that are involved in day-to-day activities, while larger, more established organizations have boards that attend exclusively to top-level policies and plans. In any case, these free tools help clarify roles and responsibilities and set the stage for clear communication and trust.

Get started by reading the Facilitator’s Guide and review the toolkit elements prior to viewing the PowerPoint slides. The slides are intended to guide the presentation – they do not include all of the information contained in the toolkit.

Next, review the handouts and determine when you will reference various sections of the handouts in your presentation. Make sure you are comfortable with the topic and toolkit prior to making your presentation. Remember, you don’t have to answer every question on the topic. Part of the value of the toolkits is to identify areas for further learning.

Review the links to Resources and Additional Materials or Publications that are provided. Go to Slide Show view on the slide to click the live link to the internet.

Present the material at a board meeting with time for discussion, assess your board on this topic, share results, create and action plan and reflect on the process.
